The Daejeon Special Judicial Police announced on the 3rd that they conducted crackdowns on illegal activities related to youth at 30 locations, including comic book cafes, in the jurisdiction from January to February, and identified two businesses violating the Youth Protection Act.
The identified businesses are two comic cafes located in Dong-gu and Yuseong-gu, respectively. These businesses were caught operating without displaying the youth harmful media warning on youth harmful media materials.
The Special Judicial Police plan to refer the identified businesses to the prosecution.
Meanwhile, comic cafes are required to display a youth harmful warning (subscription prohibited for those under 19) on comic books designated and announced as youth harmful media by the Minister of Gender Equality and Family.
If violated, penalties under the Youth Protection Act include imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 20 million KRW.
Kang Byeong-seon, head of the Civil Judicial Police Department, stated, “We will continue to conduct more thorough investigations into violations of the Youth Protection Act to ensure that youth can grow into healthy individuals.”
