At the meeting with the 1st and 2nd Vice Ministers of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mayor Jo emphasized the necessity of constructing the ‘National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Jinju Branch’ and actively requested support for projects in the southern region’s wide-area tourism development plan, which will be fully promoted from 2024. These projects include the Jinyangho Wellness Cultural Zone, the 1st Water Purification Plant Complex Cultural Exhibition Space, Mangjinsan Traditional Culture Experience Center, and the Jisumyeon K-Entrepreneurship Tourism Belt. He also explained the need to select Jinju for the national lifestyle-oriented sports center construction public contest.

During the meeting with the 1st Vice Minister, he proposed utilizing the current site of the National Jinju Museum, which is located within Jinju Fortress and will be relocated to a complex cultural space around the old Jinju Station area, as the ‘National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Jinju Branch.’ Currently, the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art operates four branches (Gwacheon, Seoul, Deoksugung, Cheongju), but there is none in the southern region.

Jogyuil Jinju Mayor Meets with Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism to Propose Local Projects Joo Kyu-il, Mayor of Jinju City, Gyeongnam, is discussing current issues with the 1st Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Mayor Jo emphasized that as the cultural gap between the metropolitan area and local regions is worsening day by day, the necessity of establishing the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art Jinju Branch is becoming more urgent to resolve this and to promote balanced cultural development and expand citizens’ cultural enjoyment rights.

He then met with the 2nd Vice Minister to propose Jinju City’s project plans for the ‘Southern Region Wide-area Tourism Development Plan,’ which the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is promoting to develop distinctive tourism resources and revitalize regional tourism in the southern region (Busan, Ulsan, Gwangju, Jeonnam, Gyeongnam) through the establishment of a wellness tourism model.

Mayor Jo stressed the necessity of the ‘National Museum of Entrepreneurship of Korea’ that focuses on the past and present of Korean entrepreneurship and presents creative future visions to entrepreneurs leading companies, as well as the ‘K-Entrepreneurship Tourism Belt Development Project’ linking the hometowns of entrepreneurs from companies such as Samsung, LG, GS, and Hyosung centered around the Jinju K-Entrepreneurship Center.

He added that Jinju City has been building and operating the Jinju K-Entrepreneurship Center since last year and has transformed the Hanok Village into a tourism accommodation facility to lay the foundation for the global expansion of K-Entrepreneurship. He requested government-level interest and support so that the Seungsan Village area in Jisumyeon, famous as a pilgrimage site like Jerusalem, can be reborn as a global sacred site of entrepreneurship.

In response, Vice Minister Jeon said, “Jinju K-Entrepreneurship is a unique content that encompasses the history and tourism that only Jinju has. We will review the construction of the Entrepreneurship History Museum and tourism projects as a cooperative project between the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Ministry of Industry.”

In the subsequent meeting with the 2nd Vice Minister, Mayor Jo proposed the construction of a lifestyle-oriented sports center including a swimming pool to expand the insufficient resident convenience facilities in the southern region of Jinju City beyond the fields of culture and tourism.
