Gyeongnam Police Agency Catches 405 Cases in February Surprise Drunk Driving Crackdown

The Gyeongnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 2nd that it had caught 405 cases of drunk driving from February 9 to 28.


The provincial police explained that they mobilized all available personnel, including the provincial undercover patrol team and the police riot squad, to the fullest extent for this crackdown.


As a result of the crackdown, there were 291 cases of license cancellations and 114 cases of license suspensions. Between noon and 4 p.m., 28 cases were caught, which is 16 more than the same period last year.

According to the provincial police agency, the number of deaths caused by drunk driving in the province over the past three years has been gradually decreasing: 35 in 2020, 14 in 2021, and 10 in 2022.


As of the end of February this year, there were 99 drunk driving accidents, a 13.9% decrease compared to last year, and no deaths occurred.


A representative of the provincial police agency said, “With rising temperatures and the approach of the spring outing season, the risk of drunk driving is increasing. Even after the surprise crackdown period, we will maintain a constant crackdown system to create an atmosphere that drunk driving will definitely be caught.” He added, “Along with the Best One Team initiative being promoted by the provincial police this year, we will make every effort to reduce traffic accidents.”
