Former Prosecutor and 18th-19th National Assembly Member
Emphasizes "Dayun=Together with Yoon Seok-yeol" and Putting the Country First
Advocates "Systematic Nomination" for a "One Team" Approach
"Am I some kind of 'Junseok-mom'? That means I communicated with the party leader to such an extent that people misunderstand."
Jeong Mi-kyung, a candidate who threw her hat into the ring for the Supreme Council member election at the People Power Party's March 8 party convention, recently stated in an interview with Asia Economy, "The Supreme Council member is a position to assist the party leader, and the right person is needed to achieve communication and unity."

Jeong, a former prosecutor, served as a metropolitan area member of the National Assembly in the 18th and 19th sessions. She was a Supreme Council member under Hwang Kyo-ahn's party leadership in 2019 and also served as a Supreme Council member under Lee Jun-seok's leadership in 2021, earning the nickname 'Junseok-mom' at one point.
Jeong emphasized 'harmony with the party leader.' She explained, "If the party leader wavers, the party wavers, so it is about assisting the party leader." She added, "When former party leader Hwang went on a hunger strike and collapsed, no one else entered the hunger strike tent, so I went inside and showed my commitment through action." Jeong took over the hunger strike when former leader Hwang was hospitalized after an indefinite hunger strike in front of the Blue House, demanding the abandonment of the High-ranking Officials' Crime Investigation Office (Hugo) establishment law and the election law repeal.
She also valued the spirit of 'putting the party first.' Jeong voluntarily resigned during the transition to a provisional leadership last year. She said, "The leadership must ultimately follow the will of the party members, so even if you say something right, if it does not align with the party's direction or policy, you have to put your own aside." She added, "Because we cannot put the party in danger, I told former leader Lee, 'That is not right,' and acted with the spirit of putting the party first."
She raised her voice that now is not the time to be divided into 'pro-Yoon' and 'anti-Yoon.' Jeong said, "Party members fundamentally dislike fighting divided like this." She continued, "What I want to say is 'Da-Yoon,' meaning all together Yoon Seok-yeol. We need to unite in the sense of 'I am Yoon Seok-yeol,' 'We are Yoon Seok-yeol,' and help the president."
She added, "To ensure the success of the Yoon Seok-yeol government, we must win the general election next year, so the leadership must be properly prepared and must not make mistakes." She warned, "It is very dangerous for unverified people to enter the leadership."
Jeong also argued that 'systematic nomination' is necessary for a 'one team.' She said, "There is only one way to win an election, and that is to become one team. For that, communication must be good, and party members must understand and empathize with the nominations." She added, "We need to quantify the parts where people have devoted themselves, made efforts, and sacrificed for the party in advance and implement a true systematic nomination."
She is also willing to run in 'difficult districts' to win the general election. Jeong explained, "If the party truly wants it, there is no reason to refuse even if it is a difficult district." She added, "Rather, if I enter the leadership, I think even difficult districts would be worth trying."
