Up to 200,000 KRW per Mari from March
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 2nd that it will support medical expenses, funeral costs, and care support fees for pets owned by single-person households, low-income groups who are socially disadvantaged, people with severe disabilities, single-parent families, and multicultural families starting from March.
According to the '2023 Animal Protection and Welfare Policy Implementation Plan,' the province will invest a total of 160 million KRW this year and plans to support 800 animals with 200,000 KRW per animal, including a 40,000 KRW self-payment. Single-person households will be supported regardless of income.
Pet medical support covers vaccination fees, neutering surgery, basic check-ups and treatment fees (including surgery), care support includes pet care consignment fees, and funeral support covers animal funeral expenses.
Applicants must submit an application form to the city or county office of their registered address and attach supporting documents such as a payment receipt for 200,000 KRW paid to a veterinary hospital (consignment facility, animal funeral facility) to receive 160,000 KRW in support from the city or county.
To receive pet medical support services, pets must be registered according to the Animal Protection Act, or registered before receiving treatment. Cats, which are not required to be registered, will be prioritized for support if registered.
This year marks the third year of the pet medical service support project, which has expanded from 13 cities and counties in the first year to 22 cities and counties this year (Suwon, Goyang, Yongin, Seongnam, Bucheon, Hwaseong, Ansan, Namyangju, Anyang, Pyeongtaek, Siheung, Paju, Uijeongbu, Gwangju, Gwangmyeong, Hanam, Osan, Icheon, Guri, Uiwang, Yangpyeong, Gwacheon).
Support for pets owned by single-person households is a pledge project of the 8th Gyeonggi Province administration and is being implemented for the first time this year.
Park Kyung-ae, Director of the Animal Welfare Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "We hope this project will have a positive effect on single-person households living with pets and socially disadvantaged groups," adding, "We will expand the project to more cities and counties."
