The prosecution requested a prison sentence for the third-generation chaebol heir who was indicted on charges of purchasing and smoking marijuana.

On the 2nd, at the trial of Cho Mo (39), a director of DSDL, held before the 23rd Criminal Division of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judge Jo Byeong-gu), the prosecution stated, "The defendant purchased marijuana four times and smoked and possessed it, which is a serious offense," and requested the court to "sentence him to 2 years in prison and impose a fine of 2.7 million won."

The defense attorney argued, "The defendant is deeply remorseful," and asked for "the maximum leniency possible." Cho also appealed for leniency, saying, "I sincerely apologize for causing concern to society," and "I will not commit such mistakes again."

The court set the sentencing date for the 23rd.

Cho was indicted in December of last year on charges of purchasing and smoking marijuana four times between January and November of the same year. He is the grandson of the late Cho Hong-je, the founder of Hyosung Group, and serves as a director at DSDL, which was separated from Hyosung Group.

Cho’s crime was uncovered during the prosecution’s supplementary investigation of the case in which the police arrested and transferred Kim Mo (39), a middleman, on charges including marijuana cultivation in September of last year.
