The Ministry of Health and Welfare announced on the 2nd that it has selected 30 Youth Social Service Project Teams for 2023 to operate in 15 cities and provinces nationwide.
The government supports youth project teams composed of more than 70% youth service providers to offer young people opportunities for social participation and capacity building, and to improve the quality of life for local residents through regionally tailored social services.
To select the youth project teams, the Ministry formed a review committee consisting of external experts and youth members. After the first review by the cities and provinces, the teams were evaluated on the thoroughness of their project plans, the content and delivery methods of services, and overall execution capabilities before final selection.
By service sector, 6 teams were selected to provide Youth Mental Health Support services, 13 teams to provide Youth Physical Health Promotion services, 10 teams to provide the newly introduced Elementary Care services this year, and 1 team to provide services independently developed by the region and the team.
The selected youth project teams plan to finalize their project plans through consulting and advice from the Regional Social Service Support Centers after signing agreements with the cities and provinces within this month. Additionally, they will begin full-scale preparations for service provision, including staff recruitment and registration of service providers. Specific recruitment plans and qualification criteria can be confirmed through each project team. Local residents wishing to use the services provided by the youth project teams can check the types of services, content, and eligibility criteria and apply through their local eup, myeon, or dong community centers.
For Youth Mental Health Support and Youth Physical Health Promotion services, which target youth, 1:1 professional psychological counseling or customized exercise prescription services are provided for three months at a monthly cost of approximately 240,000 to 280,000 KRW. The Elementary Care service is available for dual-income households with elementary school children and provides learning and accompaniment support services for five months at a monthly cost of approximately 240,000 to 260,000 KRW.
