Asan Social Welfare Foundation Seoul Asan Medical Center announced on the 2nd that it ranked 29th in the world, the highest among domestic hospitals, in a hospital evaluation conducted by the American news weekly Newsweek.
On the same day, Newsweek, together with the global research firm Statista, announced the '2023 World’s Best Hospitals' rankings based on recommendations from over 80,000 medical professionals in 28 countries and patient satisfaction. Seoul Asan Medical Center rose one spot from last year to 29th in the world, standing shoulder to shoulder with prestigious hospitals representing countries such as the United States, Canada, and Germany. It maintained first place domestically for the fifth consecutive year.
Among more than 2,300 hospitals worldwide, the survey selected 250 excellent hospitals. The number one hospital in the world was the Mayo Clinic in the United States. Following were the Cleveland Clinic (USA), Massachusetts General Hospital (USA), Johns Hopkins Hospital (USA), and Toronto General Hospital (Canada), ranked 2nd to 5th respectively.
The evaluation criteria consisted of ▲online survey results from over 80,000 doctors, hospital officials, and health experts in 28 countries (54%) ▲medical performance indicators (29%) ▲patient satisfaction surveys (14.5%) ▲implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) (2.5%). For domestic hospitals, appropriateness evaluations on intensive care units, acute diseases, cancer, and pharmaceuticals conducted by the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service, as well as patient experience evaluations regarding doctors, nurses, and hospital environment, were reflected in the assessment.
Seoul Asan Medical Center also ranked within the top 10 globally in five clinical fields in Newsweek’s '2023 World’s Best Hospitals by Clinical Specialty' evaluation released in the second half of last year. It ranked 3rd in endocrinology, 4th in urology, 6th in gastroenterology, 7th in oncology, and 9th in neurology.
