Concept of Second House to Realize Workation and 5-Do-2-Chon Lifestyle
LG Electronics unveiled the concept of a residential space called ‘LG Smart Cottage (tentative name),’ which offers a differentiated experience by integrating space, home appliances, and services. LG Smart Cottage aims to be a second house where people can enjoy a new lifestyle while practicing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) values. LG Electronics plans to conduct various projects and visitor tour events in this space.
LG Smart Cottage is a small modular house in the form of a second house that applies LG Electronics’ energy, heating and cooling air conditioning technology, and premium home appliances. It is built using a prefab method, where the structure is pre-manufactured and installed on-site. This prototype has a duplex studio layout with an area of 31.4㎡ (approximately 9.5 pyeong). The first floor includes a living room and kitchen, while the second floor has a bedroom. A 4-kilowatt (kW) solar panel is installed on the roof to self-generate part of the energy used in the house.

Smart Cottage is a space that practices LG Electronics’ ESG vision of ‘Better Life for All’ for people and the planet. It includes premium home appliances that enhance energy efficiency, such as the Objet Collection Wash Tower Compact, dishwasher, and induction electric range. It is also equipped with the ‘Therma V Monobloc’ heat pump heating and cooling system, which is popular in the European market due to its high energy efficiency during heating and cooling use.
LG Electronics introduced Smart Cottage to provide solutions and innovative customer experiences that meet the demands of consumers pursuing new lifestyles. The company explained that trends such as workations?working while enjoying a vacation?and the ‘5 cities, 2 villages’ lifestyle, where people live 5 days in the city and 2 days in rural areas, are emerging. LG Electronics expects Smart Cottage users to easily establish second houses near cities or in rural areas, thereby enjoying a more relaxed life and practicing ESG values.
LG Electronics will install the Smart Cottage prototype at ‘Lux Square,’ a complex cultural space in Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk Province, so users can experience its differentiated value. The company is also conducting the ‘Namui Jip Neighborhood Project’ with the offline meeting platform ‘Namui Jip’ until the end of this month. This project involves three host teams selected by Namui Jip living in the Smart Cottage for a certain period and holding gatherings with people on various themes. An open house tour for the general public to explore the Smart Cottage will also be held.
LG Electronics collaborates with startups that connect jobs to provide overall operational services such as cleaning and maintenance of the Smart Cottage. It is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy by creating jobs for youth and seniors in the regions where the Smart Cottage is installed. Lee Hyang-eun, Senior Vice President of CX at LG Electronics H&A Business Division, said, “Through LG Smart Cottage, we will present a new lifestyle that protects the environment and coexists with local communities.”
