The Ochang plant in Cheongju, Chungbuk, which serves as the hub of LG Energy Solution's global battery production system, is being reborn under the name "Ochang Energy Plant."

This is a case of "customer value innovation" proposed through the online communication channel "EnTalk," led by CEO and Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo of LG Energy Solution, involving over 33,000 members worldwide.

On the 2nd, LG Energy Solution announced that the official name of the Ochang site, previously known as the "Ochang Factory," has been changed to "Ochang Energy Plant." The term Energy Plant means "a factory that produces eco-friendly energy."

The wish of the members becomes reality, CEO Vice Chairman Kwon Young-soo responds immediately

The Ochang site received its new name following a post by an employee on EnTalk expressing a strong desire that "the Ochang Factory be called a wonderful name that embodies the company's vision and hope."

EnTalk is a direct communication channel between the CEO and employees where staff can share questions, suggestions, and various work-related ideas with the CEO. The CEO personally replies to each post, facilitating communication.

Vice Chairman Kwon responded to the post within a day, saying, "This is a very important proposal. I will review it." After surveys and other processes involving employees, the final decision was made.

LG Energy Solution stated, "When interacting with many global customers, there were many employee opinions that instead of simply introducing the site as 'Ochang Factory,' it is necessary to have a special name that explains the unique meaning and role of the Ochang site." They added, "Going forward, we will actively use the name Ochang Energy Plant in customer communication."

Ochang Energy Plant is LG Energy Solution's representative secondary battery manufacturing plant, completed in 2004. Approximately 5,000 employees work there, producing batteries used in various fields such as electric vehicles, energy storage systems (ESS), and IT devices.

It currently has an annual battery production capacity of 18 GWh and serves as the "Mother Factory" at the center of LG Energy Solution's product development and manufacturing worldwide, not only producing domestic volumes.

A representative example is the Factory Monitoring Control Center (FMCC) being established within the Ochang Energy Plant. LG Energy Solution plans to digitize the production lines worldwide through video data via FMCC and build a deep learning system based on artificial intelligence (AI). This system uses sensors hundreds of times more accurate than human experience to detect anomalies that may occur in equipment processes in advance. Ochang Energy Plant plays a key role as the core base for building this system.

Additionally, LG Energy Solution continues to invest steadily in new and expanded battery production lines and the construction of the latest smart factories within the Ochang Energy Plant.

Last year, through large-scale investment, they established mass production facilities for a new cylindrical battery form factor (4680) and decided to expand the existing cylindrical battery (2170) line. All newly constructed production lines will also fully adopt the latest smart factory-related systems such as remote support, manufacturing intelligence, and logistics automation to maximize productivity.
