Meeting with Minister Jeong Hwang-geun
On the 2nd, Jo Gyu-il, mayor of Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced that he met with Chung Hwang-geun, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, at the Government Sejong Complex to propose urgent projects such as the Rural Agreement, attracting the Green Bio Venture Campus, and establishing a support hub for full-cycle standardization of natural materials.
The Rural Agreement is a project in which local governments collaboratively implement plans they have independently established with the central government to create 365 living zones in rural areas.
Jinju City, ranked 5th nationwide in farm household size and a representative urban-rural complex city, plans to strengthen living service functions and expand infrastructure in rural areas, which are relatively underdeveloped compared to urban areas, through the Rural Agreement to promote coexistence between urban and rural areas.
Joo Kyu-il, Mayor of Jinju City, Gyeongnam, is meeting with Chung Hwang-geun, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, to propose current projects.
Additionally, Green Bio is a field that applies biotechnology to agricultural biological resources, enabling improvements in agricultural productivity and the development of new materials. It is a new industry that creates added value in agriculture and related upstream and downstream industries.
Accordingly, the city plans to collaborate with Gyeongsangnam-do Province, Jinju Bio Industry Promotion Agency, and Gyeongsang National University to establish the Green Bio Venture Campus and build a support hub for full-cycle standardization of natural materials, laying the foundation to become a hub for the Green Bio industry.
In particular, as part of efforts to overcome the difficulties faced by rural areas following the launch of the 8th local government administration, and to lay the foundation for balanced development in western Gyeongnam and the city's growth, Mayor Jo urgently requested active interest and support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs for the prompt implementation of these urgent projects.
Mayor Jo stated, “Jinju City is a representative urban-rural complex city, and the Rural Agreement is necessary to strengthen living service functions and expand infrastructure for urban-rural coexistence,” adding, “As the central city of western Gyeongnam, it is urgent to establish the Green Bio Venture Campus and build a support hub for full-cycle standardization of natural materials to create new growth engines in agriculture and rural industries.”
Minister Chung responded, “We fully understand the difficulties faced by Jinju City,” and said, “We will actively review the projects to ensure smooth implementation and continue to maintain an organic cooperative relationship with Jinju City in the future.”
