The donation ceremony was held the previous day at the bus depot within Phnom Penh Garden City. Attendees included Booyoung Group founder Chairman Lee Jung-geun, Phnom Penh Mayor Kuong Sreng, Cambodian officials, Ambassador Park Jung-wook to Cambodia, and members of the Korean community.
Chairman Lee said, "Seeing mothers carrying their children on motorcycles without protection in the rain or extreme heat made me think it would be good to have buses for safety." He added, "I hope citizens can comfortably travel on air-conditioned buses and use the time to read books or engage in other activities." He viewed this donation as an opportunity to improve Phnom Penh's poor public transportation conditions and to strengthen friendship and cooperation between Korea and Cambodia.
Booyoung Group plans to develop Booyoung Town, a mini new town-scale residential complex with 15,000 households in Phnom Penh. Currently, a mixed-use residential complex including 1,474 households is about to be launched. The donated buses will operate through Booyoung Town, Booyoung Khmer Bank - Borey Booyoung Sen Sok - Booyoung Camintel, and other routes within Phnom Penh city.
As part of improving educational conditions, the 'Ujeong (宇庭) Cambodia School' is also being built within Booyoung Town. Once completed, Booyoung Town will be equipped with educational facilities including daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary, middle, and high schools, a nursing college, as well as senior welfare facilities such as a senior center.
Booyoung Group has previously donated over 3,000 digital pianos containing Korean graduation songs and more than 40,000 electronic blackboards to Cambodia. It has also supported approximately $8.9 million in funding for the construction of 300 elementary schools, as well as about $550,000 for the establishment and development of Taekwondo centers. To date, Booyoung Group has donated over 1 trillion KRW to society while practicing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management.
