Ahn Cheol-soo, the People Power Party's presidential candidate, stated that he most accurately predicted the number of 'defection votes' related to the vote on the arrest motion for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, held the previous day.
On the 28th, on SBS's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show,' Candidate Ahn said, "Some lawmakers said, 'There probably won't be a single defection vote,' but I considered the defection votes as 10 plus alpha by adding ours and the Justice Party's votes. So, I predicted the defection votes would be at least 132 plus alpha. I was the closest," he said.
He explained that Democratic Party lawmakers, fearing defeat ahead of the general election, cast a 'mass defection vote.' Candidate Ahn said, "There is only one year left until the general election. There are many lawmakers from the metropolitan area within the Democratic Party, and given the current situation, they feel a strong sense of crisis that they will inevitably lose their seats," adding, "Because I had already predicted this, I said in the first TV debate last time, 'By the time of next year's general election, Lee Jae-myung will definitely be gone'."
Candidate Ahn said, "This time, the regime change happened because of Lee's moral shortcomings, and he has been cornered by various setbacks in current public opinion," adding, "But once this person disappears, an innovative and moral emergency committee chairperson will emerge in the Democratic Party to lead this election, and a more moral leader must compete to have a chance of winning."
He viewed the 'Democratic Party split scenario' as unrealistic. He said, "Probably, another arrest motion will be raised next time," adding, "either by vote or by his own decision, I think Lee will voluntarily go to the warrant hearing. Knowing well that it would be mutual destruction, a split is probably difficult."
Although there is analysis that the ruling party's presidential election has been reshaped into a 'one strong, three middle' structure due to the recent surge of Cheon Ha-ram, who is part of the 'Lee Jun-seok faction,' Candidate Ahn raised his voice, calling it a 'two-strong structure.' He said, "It is a two-strong structure. Because Candidate Kim only attacks me," adding, "According to the most recent opinion poll, Candidate Kim is in the 30% range, I am in the 20% range, and the combined support for the 3rd and 4th place candidates is lower than mine."
