Policy on Illegal Parking Enforcement in Children's Protection Zones
The Gangwon Provincial Police Agency has removed all parking lines installed in children's protection zones within the province.
On the 28th, the Gangwon Provincial Police Agency announced, "In accordance with the revision of the Road Traffic Act, after on-site inspections and gathering public opinion regarding 15 children's protection zones with parking lines in the province, we have removed all parking lines, with Samcheok Hosan Elementary School and one other location being the last."
Previously, parking and stopping were allowed in children's protection zones, but according to the revised Road Traffic Act (commonly known as the Minsik Act) enacted in October 2021, parking and stopping are now completely prohibited.
However, the Gangwon police plan to allow parking and stopping only during nighttime and holidays in areas without alternative parking lots or where nighttime parking is frequent, after review by the Traffic Safety Facilities Deliberation Committee.
The Provincial Police Agency stated, "Children are short in height, making them less visible when walking between vehicles, and they may suddenly run onto the road without paying attention," adding, "We will strictly enforce regulations to prevent illegal parking and stopping in children's protection zones."
