At the end of last year, Apple faced disruptions in iPhone production due to the closure of the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou, China. Now, the company is at risk of further delays in product manufacturing following a fire at its Indian partner's facility.
On the 27th (local time), major foreign media reported that the Foxlink factory, an Apple supplier located in Andhra Pradesh in southeastern India, was shut down due to a large-scale fire. Foxlink is a manufacturer producing iPhone charging cables and established its factory in India in 2020.
Immediately after the fire broke out, 300 workers evacuated the building, resulting in no casualties. However, local fire authorities estimated property damage at approximately $12 million (15.8 billion KRW), as about 50% of the factory equipment was destroyed by the fire.
Accordingly, it is expected that it will take a considerable amount of time before the factory can resume operations.
Major foreign media reported that the exact cause of the fire has not been disclosed, and Foxlink has not made any specific comments regarding the incident.
Previously, last year, Apple experienced production setbacks for the iPhone 14 after Chinese authorities shut down the Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou, China, the world's largest iPhone production hub.
In response, Apple announced on its official website that shipment volumes would decrease, leading to longer wait times for new product deliveries.
With production disruptions occurring just before the Christmas season, Apple’s fourth-quarter revenue last year declined by 5% compared to the same period the previous year.
