Covering an area of 7,876㎡, including a library, Dahamkke Care Center, and Lifelong Learning Center... Construction to begin in May
Total project cost of approximately 30.5 billion KRW, aiming for completion in the first half of 2025
The complex cultural town being built on the former KBS transmission site in Gaebong-dong, Guro-gu, Seoul, will begin construction this year.
Guro-gu (Mayor Moon Heon-il) announced on the 28th that the complex cultural town, which will house a hub library and lifelong learning center, will start construction in May and is scheduled to be completed in the first half of 2025.
The complex cultural town project, located at 195-6 Gaebong-dong, the former KBS transmission site, gained momentum after being selected for the 2019 Life SOC Complex Project.
With a total project cost of approximately 30.5 billion KRW, including 3 billion KRW in national funding, the complex will be built on a total floor area of 7,876㎡ and consist of two buildings: the Library Building (B1 to 4F) and the Education and Research Building (B1 to 3F).
The Library Building will include a youth hangout, artist creative spaces, and the Dahamkke Care Center, while the Education and Research Building will house the Lifelong Learning Center, serving as a multifunctional cultural space.
Once completed, the complex cultural town is expected to greatly enhance the convenience of residents who have experienced a lack of public infrastructure. Additionally, its accessibility via Gaebong Station and Nambu Beltway is expected to increase foot traffic and revitalize the surrounding commercial area.
Moon Heon-il, Mayor of Guro-gu, stated, “With the construction of the complex cultural town, Gaebong-dong will leap forward as a cultural and educational hub in the southwestern region of Seoul. We will strive to ensure smooth progress aiming for completion in the first half of 2025.” He added, “Starting with this complex cultural town, we will enhance Guro-gu’s value and bring about transformative changes to create a pleasant living environment.”
Meanwhile, Guro-gu plans to hold a residents’ briefing session in March to share project progress and gather residents’ opinions.
Seodaemun-gu Begins Construction of Bukahyeon Overpass
Connecting Bukahyeon 1-1 and 1-2 Districts... Resolving Residents’ Traffic Inconvenience That Lasted Over 8 Years
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) held a groundbreaking ceremony at 3 p.m. on the 27th at Bukahyeon Bokjusan Neighborhood Park for the construction of an overpass (road bridge and green bridge) connecting Bukahyeon 1-1 and 1-2 districts in the area of 1011-10 Bukahyeon-dong.
An overpass refers to a bridge built over railroad tracks to allow crossing.
This project aims to connect roads severed by the Gyeongui-Jungang Line, resolving residents’ traffic inconveniences that have persisted for over eight years. Additionally, the installation of a green bridge in Bokjusan Neighborhood Park is expected to expand residents’ resting spaces and improve accessibility and mobility.
The district received construction authority in December after the Public Procurement Service completed a prior review of construction costs in September last year. Following the issuance of construction orders and contracts, construction has now commenced.
Notably, through a request to the Public Procurement Service, the district succeeded in reducing the originally requested construction cost of 23 billion KRW by the contractor to around 17 billion KRW.
The construction will officially begin in March and is scheduled for completion in December 2024.
The road bridge will be 20 meters wide and 52 meters long, while the green bridge will be 29 meters wide and 42 meters long.
Lee Seong-heon, Mayor of Seodaemun-gu, stated, “We judged that inflating construction costs was unjustifiable, so we terminated the contract with the original contractor and are now proceeding with the project as a public procurement directly ordered by the district office.”
Geumcheon-gu Opens Skybridge Between Geumdong Elementary School and Byeoksan Apartments
General residents can move without detours, and students have a safe passage separated from outsiders
Securing a safe passage and guaranteeing students’ right to learn
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yoo Seong-hoon) completed the installation of a vertical elevator and pedestrian bridge connecting Geumdong Elementary School and Gwanak Byeoksan Town Apartments 5 and 6 complexes, holding an opening ceremony on the 27th.
The 5th and 6th complexes of Gwanak Byeoksan Town Apartments in Siheung 2-dong are located on a hillside residential area, causing inconvenience for residents in moving around. To access nearby community facilities such as the community center, library, and welfare center, residents had to take a long detour via Geumha-ro or share a narrow and steep slope in front of the school with students.
To resolve this, Geumcheon-gu installed a 15-passenger elevator inside Geumdong Elementary School and a 56-meter-long pedestrian bridge connecting the Byeoksan Town Apartments. Additionally, a separate walkway from the elevator to the elementary school’s main gate was created to eliminate inconvenience caused by shared use between general residents and students.
With the opening of the skybridge between Geumdong Elementary School and Byeoksan Apartments, residents can now access convenience facilities without detours, and students at Geumdong Elementary School are guaranteed a safe commuting route and their right to learn.
This project was carried out with 3.2 billion KRW in city funds secured through Seoul’s resident proposal project aimed at improving mobility in hilly areas. The project proposal was made by the Geumdong Elementary School parents’ group “Siheunggol Ttubogi.”
Yoo Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “This project is a meaningful example of public-private cooperation to solve local issues. We will continue to listen carefully to residents’ voices and do our best to expand projects that residents can truly feel.”
