On the 28th, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family announced that, after conducting the review of the ‘2023 Youth Program Contest Project’ with the Korea Youth Activity Promotion Agency, a total of 62 programs were selected: 40 in the school-linked youth activity sector, 20 in the digital activity sector, and 2 in the special sector.
In particular, this year, the proportion of school-linked youth activity programs was significantly expanded to strengthen cooperation among youth facilities, schools, and local communities, as included in last year’s announced ‘Measures to Strengthen Support for Youth Inside and Outside Schools’ and the 7th Basic Youth Policy Plan.
In this regard, programs that operate various experiential activities, which are limited to be conducted within schools by utilizing the facilities and equipment of youth training centers, as well as programs that utilize idle spaces within schools, were newly selected.
Additionally, opportunities to participate in activities using digital devices such as 3D printers and video editing tools were increased, and platform-based youth activities such as the metaverse and YouTube were activated to focus on nurturing digital future talents.
For the newly established special sector this year, programs were selected to promote and spread the value of international events where youth are the main participants, such as the ‘2023 World Scout Jamboree’ and the ‘Gangwon Winter Youth Olympics.’
This contest project was selected through three rounds of evaluation, and to enhance the practical outcomes of school-linked activities, advisory (consulting) support composed of expert groups (including education office officials, principals, and teachers) will be provided, along with training to strengthen the capabilities of digital activity instructors.
The selection results can be checked on the websites of the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family and the Korea Youth Activity Promotion Agency or the Ministry’s project support portal, and details such as program schedules and participation methods for each selected program will be announced later through the Youth Activity Information Service (www.youth.go.kr).
Kim Kwon-young, Youth Policy Officer at the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, stated, “Linking youth activities with schools and supporting programs to enhance youth digital capabilities is very meaningful,” and added, “We will continue to actively support the activation of youth activities through the youth program contest project.”
