Korean Prime Minister Meets Fire Officer Candidates, Urges Them to Practice the '119 Spirit' in the Field

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo Hosts Dinner to Encourage 28th Fire Officer Cadet Class

Prime Minister Han Duck-soo invited all graduates of the Fire Officer Candidate Program and other firefighting officials to the Prime Minister's official residence in Sejong on the evening of the 27th for a dinner gathering.

At the event, Prime Minister Han urged, "Since you have chosen the noble profession of saving lives, I ask each graduate to carry out the '119 Spirit' established by your predecessors with passion and dedication in the field."

He also mentioned the efforts of the international rescue team supporting the earthquake victims in Turkey, saying, "I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the firefighting officials."

The dinner was held to celebrate the commissioning of 31 graduates (27 men, 4 women) of the 28th Fire Officer Candidate Program and to encourage the hard work of firefighting officials.

The graduates entered the Central Fire Academy in March last year and completed a one-year specialized training course to cultivate the virtues required as firefighting officials, as well as knowledge of fire suppression, rescue operations, and on-site command methods.

The Fire Officer Candidate system was first introduced in 1977, producing 50 graduates in its first class, and has since produced a total of 1,048 graduates up to the 28th class (31 graduates).
