"We Will Not Forget the Noble Sacrifice of That Day"
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam, sent letters of appreciation to 118 descendants of independence patriots on the occasion of the 104th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, conveying deep respect and gratitude.
In the letter dated the 27th, Mayor Hong stated, “Today’s Republic of Korea, which is growing into a leading country on the global stage, could not have been achieved without the true courage and noble sacrifice of the pioneers for national independence,” and added, “Changwon Special City will promote veterans’ policies that repay the patriotic pioneers and will continue efforts to widely spread a culture of respect for national merit recipients and their families.”
On the occasion of the 104th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, the city delivered consolation funds to the descendants of independence patriots in the jurisdiction. To honor the achievements of the patriots who devoted themselves to the liberation of the country and to inherit and develop the noble spirit of independence, every year on March 1st, a memorial service and commemorative ceremony for the patriots are held at the Changwon City Patriots Shrine (located in Jinjeon-myeon, Masanhappo-gu).
Additionally, to honor the achievements of the independence patriots who devoted themselves to the liberation of the country and to awaken the spirit of patriotism and love for the nation among the younger generations, the city focuses on publicizing the significance of March 1st through various means such as installing commemorative message banners in major city areas, broadcasting on electronic display boards, Bus Information Systems (BIS), and social media (SNS).
