Goheung-gun Promotes Drone-Centric City Goheung at Drone Show

Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Gong Yeong-min) announced that it participated in the 2023 Drone Show Korea, operating a special promotional exhibition hall to focus on promoting ‘Drone-Centered City Goheung’ and the ‘Goheung Drone·UAM Expo’ scheduled for September.

The 2023 Drone Show Korea is the largest drone specialized exhibition in Korea, where visitors can see the present and future of future flying vehicle technologies such as drones and UAM in person. It gathers related industry stakeholders in one place and attracts many visitors, making it an optimal business venue for drone-related events and technology promotion.

Through participation in the event, Goheung-gun publicized nationwide its status as a leading region for drone industry with the largest drone airspace in the country, the Goheung Drone Center, and the establishment of the K-UAM Grand Challenge test bed, advancing UAM demonstration and commercialization.

In particular, based on core infrastructure facilities, the county made efforts to revitalize the drone industry by discussing key issues with officials from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute, Korean Air, and the Army to target niche markets in the unmanned aerial vehicle industry.

Additionally, the county focused on promoting the Goheung Nokdong Port Drone Show held every Saturday from May to November and the Goheung Drone·UAM Expo scheduled for September, urging event participants to show active participation and interest.

A drone company representative who visited the Goheung booth said, “Goheung has well-established infrastructure related to drones and UAM, so it would be convenient to utilize Goheung’s infrastructure for various demonstrations.” He added, “We will also consider relocating our company to Goheung after reviewing local conditions.”

A county official said, “Participating in this event was a great achievement not only in promoting Drone-Centered City Goheung to many people and understanding trends in the future flying vehicle industry, but above all, meeting with Korean Air, the Army, and drone industry stakeholders gave us confidence that the unmanned aviation industry can serve as a new growth engine for Goheung.”

Meanwhile, Goheung-gun formed the Aerospace Promotion Team through the first organizational restructuring of the 8th local government in early January this year and is focusing on fostering the aerospace industry as a core industry of Goheung-gun.
