Gyeonggi International Airport Promotion Citizens' Association: "Airport Construction is a Century-Long Plan for Economic Development"

Seven organizations, including the Gyeonggi International Airport Promotion Citizens' Council, urged active promotion of the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport, calling it a century-long plan for economic development.

At a press conference held on the 27th at the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, the council stated, "The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport must proceed with a preliminary feasibility study for the Gyeonggi Southern International Airport for the nation's development, and Gyeonggi Province must immediately conduct a research project on the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport for the well-being and happiness of its residents."

They added, "The results of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's preliminary feasibility study and Gyeonggi Province's policy research will prove the necessity and validity of constructing Gyeonggi International Airport," and "Suwon civic groups are confident that the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport is a rational alternative and an opportunity for mutual development, and will continue efforts to attract an 'eco-friendly Gyeonggi International Airport.'"

Furthermore, they said, "We are ready to engage in constructive discussions at any time with some groups opposing the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport," and promised, "Suwon civic groups will strongly respond to any unreasonable and irrational actions until the day Gyeonggi International Airport is built."

On the same day, the council criticized, "Some groups are making unreasonable claims, opposing, withdrawing, or calling for the abolition of the budget during the budget allocation process, claiming that the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport is a trick," and "In particular, on the 14th, an organization called the Life and Peace Conference for the Closure of Suwon Air Base held a press conference urging the complete cut of Gyeonggi Province's budget related to the construction of Gyeonggi International Airport, calling it a violent and environmentally unfriendly project."
