Over 20 Years of Research on Mongolian Music
Professor Park Sohyun, a Korean traditional music major in the Department of Music at Yeungnam University, received the 'Nairamdal Order' awarded by Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Yeungnam University announced on the 27th.
The 'Nairamdal Order' is the highest friendship medal awarded to foreigners in Mongolia.
Professor Park Sohyun is training experts in Korean traditional and ethnic music at Yeungnam University. She served as the vice president of the Korea-Mongolia Society and currently serves as its chairperson, contributing to the development of Mongolian studies in Korea and expanding the research network between the two countries. She was recognized for her active efforts in academic exchanges between Korea and Mongolia for over 20 years.
Professor Park is the only musicologist representing Korean Mongolian musicology. She has been actively conducting research, publishing over 60 research papers domestically and internationally based on field investigations in Mongolia for more than 20 years.
In 2006, she was recognized for her achievements as the youngest female Mongolian studies scholar and received the 'Honorary Medal for the 800th Anniversary of the Mongol Empire.' She also served as a judge for the Mongolian President's World Morin Khuur Competition.
The 'Nairamdal Order' awarding ceremony took place at 6 p.m. on the 14th during the 'Korea-Mongolia Business Dinner' held at the Grand Hyatt Seoul Hotel. At the event, Mongolian Minister of Foreign Affairs Battsetseg Batmunkh presented the Nairamdal Order to Professor Park Sohyun.
