Jeju Air announced on the 27th that the number of customers purchasing additional baggage is steadily increasing.
Analyzing Jeju Air's international additional baggage purchase records from January to December 2022, it was found that there were a total of 163,980 cases throughout the year. Among these, on-site purchases accounted for 98,158 cases. By region, ▲ Japan routes ranked first with 16,094 cases ▲ Philippines routes ranked second with 5,443 cases ▲ Oceania routes followed with 3,274 cases.
Jeju Air cited the increase in additional baggage purchases as due to the ‘rise in shoppers caused by the weak yen phenomenon.’ In particular, the number of additional baggage purchases made through local airport branches in Japan increased by about 21% in December last year to 6,218 cases compared to 5,149 cases in November, and by about 137% compared to 2,629 cases in October.
Jeju Air operates an additional service called the ‘Pre-purchase Baggage System’ for customers who need extra baggage. It can be purchased up to 24 hours before the flight departure via the Jeju Air website, mobile app, or web. Including the free baggage allowance provided according to the airfare, customers can purchase up to 40kg (up to 3 pieces for Oceania routes).
By using Jeju Air’s pre-purchase baggage system to book through the website at least 24 hours before the flight departure, customers can receive a discount of up to 150,000 KRW. For example, if you purchase the Incheon-Bangkok route with the FLYBAG fare, you are provided with 15kg of free baggage, and purchasing an additional 25kg at the airport costs 400,000 KRW, but if purchased online in advance, it costs 250,000 KRW.
A Jeju Air official said, “By using the pre-purchase baggage system, customers can enjoy overseas shopping without worries,” adding, “Last year, the number of pre-purchase baggage cases was 69,449, and especially in October, when visa-free entry to Japan was implemented, it increased by 66% compared to the previous month, boosting additional revenue.”
