Park Jumin: "More than 170 votes will be cast against the arrest motion for Lee Jae-myung"

"Yoon Seok-yeol and Han Dong-hoon Likely Aware of Jeong Soon-shin's School Violence"

On the 27th, as the arrest consent bill for Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was put to a vote in the National Assembly, Park Jumin, a Democratic Party lawmaker, predicted that the number of votes against the arrest consent bill would exceed 170, surpassing the 161 votes against it when lawmaker Roh Woong-rae was involved.

On the same day, Park said on CBS's "Kim Hyun-jung's News Show," "I think there will be more than 170 votes against it; I believe there are almost no people who will vote in favor," expressing this view.

Regarding the arrest consent bill for Lee, the atmosphere within the Democratic Party is becoming more unified, increasing the likelihood of the bill being rejected. Consequently, attention is focused on whether the number of votes against the bill will exceed the 161 votes that lawmaker Roh received.

Park was confident that there would be more votes against the bill than when Roh was involved. He said, "When I check with those around me and naturally discuss this, there are almost no people who have different thoughts or opinions on this matter," adding, "Especially since some parts of the arrest warrant were made public this time, many lawmakers seem to feel somewhat puzzled and that it is absurd."

Within the party, voices are emerging that Lee's decision is necessary to break free from the 'bulletproof frame.' Democratic Party lawmaker Cho Eung-cheon argued, "This time, we will reject it, but next time, the party leader should make a decision on his own." In response, Park said, "At this stage, I think it is inappropriate to mention such things," adding, "There is an investigation by the prosecution, and the party will respond accordingly while continuing to focus on livelihood and other tasks. We would fall into an antlion pit of the 'bulletproof frame' if we insist on this, so there is no need to do so."

Lee, who had also pledged 'immunity from arrest' as a presidential campaign promise, has been criticized by the Justice Party for making maximum use of this immunity. Park said, "Many citizens may feel uncomfortable about the immunity from arrest. However, I hope people consider the reason why this system was created and why it exists," adding, "Without this, it would be difficult for the legislative branch to act freely, free from pressure from the executive branch."

Regarding the resignation of lawyer Jeong Soon-shin, appointed as head of the National Investigation Headquarters, after just one day due to a 'child school violence' issue, Park said, "I don't think it will end with his resignation. At the very least, those involved in the personnel screening line should show responsibility for such a poor screening process," adding, "Police Chief Yoon Hee-geun also bears some responsibility."

He continued, "Then there is the Ministry of Justice's Personnel Information Management Team, which should also bear responsibility, and the Public Office Discipline Secretary in the Presidential Office should bear some responsibility as well," adding. He claimed that "Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon and President Yoon Seok-youl were working together with lawyer Jeong Soon-shin at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office at the time of this incident. As you know, if there is a controversy involving prosecutors that even becomes a news report, there is an internal check," asserting that both President Yoon and Minister Han were aware of the 'school violence controversy.'
