Attorney Jeong Sun-shin Voluntarily Resigns from the Position of Head of the National Investigation Headquarters
Jin Joong-kwon, a special professor at Kwangwoon University, sharply criticized the resignation of lawyer Jeong Soon-shin, who had been appointed as the head of the National Police Investigation Headquarters, saying, "If someone like this is put in charge of the National Investigation Headquarters, all citizens become 'victims of state violence.'"
On the 26th, Professor Jin wrote on his Facebook, "Isn't it the father’s doing to have gone as far as filing a lawsuit to oppose the transfer order?" He added, "Moreover, what on earth did he say to his child at home that the child goes around saying, ‘My dad knows a lot of people. If he is close to the judge, he will definitely win the trial’?"
Professor Jin continued, "If the victim student attempted an extreme choice, even if you apologize profusely for your wrongdoing, it would not be enough, yet you went through lawsuits up to the third trial and say ‘It was the lawyer’s judgment’?" He directly criticized, "He used a lawyer because he intended to sue, not because the lawyer was a human rights lawyer who would take on an unwanted lawsuit pro bono and asked to be entrusted with it."
He added, "How much must the father have been scheming for the child to say ‘There is no sign of remorse’?" and questioned, "Is that something a parent should do? Is that something a human being should do?"
Addressing Jeong’s son, he said, "Yeah, it must be nice that your dad knows a lot of people. He even knows the President. He knows the Minister of Justice," and scolded, "Thanks to that, he wears a big hat. But who is the judge your dad is close to? Go ahead and brag about that too."
He continued, "Is it good for you to go to a prestigious university alone after ruining your friend’s life? Which ‘prestigious university’ accepted you?" He added, "You say it’s not violence because you only used words without hitting? You say the context must be considered? If you’re so confident, reveal your identity. I won’t hit you. I’ll only use words considering the context."
Earlier, on the 25th, lawyer Jeong issued a statement expressing his voluntary resignation from the position of head of the National Investigation Headquarters.
He said, "A situation arose where the public is worried about my son’s issue, and I have come to the conclusion that I cannot possibly carry out the important responsibility of the head of the National Investigation Headquarters with such a flaw," and added, "I withdraw my application for the head of the National Investigation Headquarters."
The Presidential Office stated regarding the school violence record of lawyer Jeong’s son, whose appointment was canceled, "Since it is a matter related to the child, there were shortcomings," and "There are many regrets about not being able to filter out problems during the verification process."
Meanwhile, Jeong’s son, who entered a famous autonomous private high school in 2017, continuously subjected a classmate who lived in the same dorm room to verbal abuse based on the classmate’s region of origin. Eventually, the classmate showed signs of anxiety to the extent of attempting an extreme choice.
Subsequently, Jeong’s son was referred to the school violence committee and received a transfer order in March 2018. They filed an administrative lawsuit and a suspension of execution to cancel the transfer order, which went all the way to the Supreme Court, and finally lost the case in April 2019.
