Nation's First Support for Hair Loss Treatment Costs for Youth and Others, Implementing Niche Welfare for Confident and Vibrant Daily Life
Providing up to 200,000 KRW annually for hair loss treatment costs, covering 50% of the oral medication purchase amount per person for residents aged 39 and under
Seongdong-gu will launch the 'Hair Loss Treatment Cost Support Project for Youth and Others' targeting residents aged 39 and under starting this March.
In May of last year, Seongdong-gu enacted the 'Seongdong-gu Ordinance on Support for Hair Loss Treatment for Youth and Others,' the first of its kind nationwide to support hair loss treatment costs for youth and others. From this year, the district aims to realize niche welfare by promoting a hair loss treatment cost support project for youth residents aged 39 and under, enabling them to lead confident and vibrant daily lives.
Eligible applicants for hair loss treatment cost support are residents registered in Seongdong-gu who have lived in the district for more than three months (as of the application date, March 2, 2023) and have been diagnosed with alopecia. The support is limited to oral medication costs and is provided by reimbursing the amount the applicant has already purchased. The support covers 50% of the purchase amount per person, up to an annual limit of 200,000 KRW.
Applications for treatment cost support can be submitted through the Seongdong-gu website starting March 2. Applicants must submit a diagnosis or medical opinion with the disease code, prescription, medication cost statement, and receipt. After document submission, eligibility and residency requirements will be verified before providing support. The support funds are scheduled to be deposited into individual accounts around the 15th of each month.
A district official stated, "Hair loss among youth can lead to a decline in self-esteem and, if it occurs during a period of active social advancement such as job seeking, may even result in psychological disorders. We want to send a message of encouragement to youth facing a diversifying environment and help them establish themselves as healthy members of society."
