Gimhae City to Support 25% of Internship Expenses for University Students Starting This Year

Gimhae City in Gyeongnam signed a business agreement to promote the university student field training semester system on the 23rd.

According to the city, Mayor Hong Taeyong, Inje University’s Jeon Minhyeon, Gaya University’s Lee Sanghee, Gimhae University’s Pyeon Geumsik, and Gimhae Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Kim Sangjin, Vice Chairman of External Cooperation, attended the event, signed the agreement, and discussed activation plans.

The university student field training semester system is a project that strengthens job competency through major-specialized education for three months each semester in connection with excellent local companies.

This year, a total of 49 students from three universities?35 from Inje University, 7 from Gaya University, and 7 from Gimhae University?will participate in field training at local companies.

The city plans to discover additional companies and students within the year to expand the project.

Under this agreement, the city will support 25% of the corporate contribution portion of the field training expenses for participating university students, which had been borne 75% by companies and 25% by universities.

A city official explained, “Since the inauguration of the 8th mayoral term, there have been requests from local companies to reduce the burden of field training expenses, so we decided to provide support starting this year.”

Mayor Hong said, “It is necessary to activate a virtuous cycle structure where local university students gain employment at local companies through field training opportunities,” adding, “We will do our best to create an industry-academia cooperation ecosystem linking local universities and regional companies.”
