In Gangneung, there is growing anticipation and a welcoming atmosphere that Jumunjin will become the new central administrative city of Gangwon Province, serving as a turning point for revitalizing the stagnant Yeongdong region.

The city emphasized, "Jumunjin, where the East Coast Headquarters is located, is not only at the exact center of the East Coast but also the central city for Gangwon Province’s marine and fisheries functions. All residents recognize that it is the optimal location for the second government office building in terms of accessibility and geographic position."

It added, "Since the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Yeongdong area has been presented with new opportunities for change due to expanded transportation infrastructure. There is a need for a new administrative central institution to lead the establishment of residential conditions and living infrastructure in marine, tourism, industry, culture, arts, and education."

Earlier, on the 19th of last month, at the Gangwon Provincial Council members’ general meeting, Governor Kim Jin-tae officially declared the opening of the Gangneung second government office building on July 1, marking a new beginning for Gangwon Province’s development over the next 100 years.

Mayor Kim Hong-gyu of Gangneung said, "The promotion of the East Coast Headquarters and the opening of the Gangwon Provincial Government’s second office building will serve as a catalyst for balanced development and the successful launch of the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province," adding, "I repeatedly requested the governor’s special attention to this matter."
