[Asia Economy Reporter Yu Je-hoon] Janet Yellen, the U.S. Treasury Secretary, announced that the United States plans to provide an economic aid package worth $10 billion (approximately 13 trillion KRW) to Ukraine in the near future, according to major foreign media reports on the 23rd (local time).
According to the reports, Secretary Yellen made the announcement during a press conference held in Bangalore, India. She is visiting India to attend the G7 meeting held that day and the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors meeting scheduled for the 24th-25th.
Secretary Yellen emphasized, "As President Joe Biden said, we will stand with Ukraine," adding, "Strong support for Ukraine will be a major topic of discussion during my time in India."
As Secretary Yellen mentioned, the issue of aid to Ukraine was discussed at this G7 meeting. Previously, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) projected that Ukraine would need at least $39.5 billion (approximately 51 trillion KRW) in aid this year, and Ukraine is also pursuing a plan to receive an aid package worth $15 billion (approximately 19 trillion KRW) from the IMF.
