The two organizations plan to conduct joint research to ensure a stable supply of raw salmon and to verify the safety of cell-based seafood.

Baobab Healthcare is currently preparing for the commercialization of clean fish using a 3D bioprinting platform and fish cells. In the cultured meat business, a stable supply of raw materials and safety verification are the most critical factors for obtaining permits and approvals.

The Inland Fisheries Research Institute is equipped with eco-friendly smart cold-water fish species research facilities and possesses proprietary aquaculture technology that can raise salmon healthily in an antibiotic-free environment. It currently holds various salmonid fry, including Pacific salmon, Atlantic salmon, and rainbow trout.

Starting with this MOU, the two parties plan to conduct joint research to verify safety, including supplying various types of salmon fry raised healthily in an antibiotic-free environment, testing and analyzing aquaculture water, and diagnosing diseases in fry.

Park Cheon-il, Director of the Inland Fisheries Research Institute, stated, “The development of cultured meat, which can solve upcoming environmental changes and the depletion of fishery resources, is essential,” adding, “If stable supply and safety verification of raw materials are achieved through the institute’s eco-friendly aquaculture technology, it could create great synergy in the development and approval of clean fish.”

Jeon Ho-jun, CEO of Baobab Healthcare, said, “This MOU is most significant in securing a stable supply of salmon fry from the Inland Fisheries Research Institute,” and added, “By ensuring the safety of raw materials, we plan to accelerate the approval and commercialization timeline of clean fish.”
