[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] The Gwangju Western Fire Station announced on the 23rd that it conducted the 2023 first half firefighting tactical training to measure the performance of rescue and emergency medical technicians' education and training, and to strengthen expertise through the exchange of on-site response skills.
All 18 rescue team members and 18 emergency medical technicians from the Western Fire Station participated in this evaluation, which was conducted to cultivate the technical skills used in actual field situations and the tactical abilities required as on-site personnel.
For the rescue team members, the evaluation events were conducted according to the evaluation criteria based on the Level 2 Life Rescuer practical evaluation sheet, including rope descent and climbing. For the emergency medical technicians, the evaluation focused on triage of multiple casualties and the use of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and automated external defibrillator (AED), which have become more important since the Itaewon incident.
Additionally, through the evaluation, participants identify their strengths and weaknesses themselves, improve teamwork through communication, and strive to demonstrate the best firefighting capabilities in various disaster scenes that change moment by moment.
Jo Ho-ik, head of the 119 Disaster Response Division, said, “Continuous training is very important to protect the lives and property of the people at disaster sites,” and added, “We will address and master any shortcomings identified through this evaluation and take the lead in protecting the lives and property of local residents at disaster scenes.”
