[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Seoyul] The prosecution has indicted former Star Mobility Chairman Kim Bonghyun (49), known as the 'Lime mastermind,' along with six current and former lawmakers without detention on charges of receiving illegal political funds.
On the 23rd, the Criminal Division 6 of the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jundong) announced that former Chairman Kim and Democratic Party members Assemblyman Ki Dongmin (57) and Assemblywoman Lee Sujin (proportional representative, 54) were indicted without detention on charges of violating the Political Funds Act.
Former Democratic Party member Kim Youngchun (61), former National Assembly candidate Mr. Kim (55), and journalist-turned-figure Mr. Lee (61), who is accused of conspiring with former Chairman Kim to provide a total of 160 million won in illegal political funds to four politicians, were also indicted without detention.
According to the prosecution, Assemblyman Ki is accused of receiving 100 million won in political funds and suits worth approximately 2 million won from former Chairman Kim and conspirator Mr. Lee between February and April 2016 under the pretexts of election funds and facilitating permits related to the Yangjaedong cargo terminal site.
Additionally, the prosecution found that Assemblywoman Lee and former Assemblyman Kim each received 5 million won in political funds from former Chairman Kim in February and March 2016, respectively. Former National Assembly candidate Mr. Kim was also investigated to have received 50 million won in February of the same year.
