Integrated Management of Environmental Pollutants Based on Garak Market System and Data

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seoul Agro-Fisheries & Food Corporation (President Moon Young-pyo) announced that since last September, it has been actively promoting integrated environmental management to efficiently manage harmful environmental pollution factors that were previously managed individually.

By integrating the management of harmful environmental pollution sources, which were previously handled by individual teams, and establishing a control tower and promotion body, more systematic and efficient environmental management has become possible.

One example is the integration of sewer dredging and water cleaning operations, which enabled odor reduction, and during the heavy rains in August and November, the pipelines maintained their proper function without blockage.

Another example is the implementation of environmental improvement activities to improve air quality in the indoor parking lot of Garak Mall by integrating air quality monitoring systems, fan room ceiling grille water cleaning, improvement of supply and exhaust fan operations, and idling crackdowns, resulting in an average fine dust reduction of 57.9㎍/㎥.

This month, the corporation established the 2023 Garak Market Environmental Management Comprehensive Plan, which includes installing environmental information sensors throughout the wholesale market, operating an external expert advisory group to enhance the professionalism of environmental management, and expanding joint responses to wholesale market environmental issues from corporation employees to distributor organizations.

By linking with the Seoul Urban Data Sensor (S-DoT) operated by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, environmental information sensors will be installed throughout Garak Market, and based on the data collected through monitoring, systematic and more precise environmental measures will be established and utilized in an upgraded direction.

Additionally, to enhance the professionalism of environmental management, an advisory group composed of five external experts in air quality, odor, and water quality fields will be operated to review matters discussed in the ‘Integrated Environmental Management Promotion Body’ and to develop optimal environmental management techniques that are low-cost and high-efficiency, thereby advancing the quality of integrated environmental management.

Furthermore, participation in the ‘Integrated Environmental Management Promotion Body’ will be expanded from corporation employees to distributor organizations such as wholesale market corporations, aiming to activate integrated environmental management through shared awareness of the environment and joint environmental maintenance.

Kwon Ki-tae, Head of the Environmental Creation Headquarters, stated, "By integrating harmful environmental factors based on IoT and data and upgrading the environmental management system, we expect to transform into a pleasant, safe, and eco-friendly wholesale market."
