Voluntary Participation of All Departments and Fire Disaster Headquarters Staff
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Employees affiliated with Busan City are participating in the 'Turkey-Syria Earthquake Disaster Relief Fundraising.'
This fundraising follows Busan City's previous support of $100,000 for Turkey-Syria earthquake relief, with city employees voluntarily raising funds as a gesture of condolence and encouragement for the earthquake victims.
Turkey is the country where Istanbul, Busan City's sister city, is located. During the Korean War, Turkey sent the fourth largest number of troops after the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. Even now, 462 Turkish soldiers are buried in the Busan United Nations Memorial Cemetery, reflecting the deep ties between our countries.
Since February 13, employees from all city departments (including business offices and affiliated institutions) and the Fire and Disaster Headquarters have participated, raising a total of approximately 34 million KRW. The funds have been donated to the Korean Red Cross and will be used to support temporary shelters, relief supplies, medical aid, and emergency food.
Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, "We extend our deepest condolences and sympathy to the people of Turkey and Syria who are suffering greatly from the earthquake damage," adding, "I express my gratitude to the employees who participated in the fundraising and ask that many citizens join in to instill hope and courage in life."
Individuals or organizations wishing to donate to share warm hearts with the people of Turkey and Syria can contact the Social Cooperation Team of the Korean Red Cross Busan Branch or donate through the Korean Red Cross website.
