[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] A dedicated medical center for local people with disabilities has been established in Chungnam.
Chungnam Province announced on the 23rd that it held an opening ceremony for the "Chungnam Regional Disability Health Care Center (hereinafter referred to as the Center)" in the main conference room of the annex building at Hongseong Medical Center.
The Center was established on the basement first floor of the rehabilitation specialized center at Hongseong Medical Center, with a budget of 191.75 million KRW secured through a public contest project by the Ministry of Health and Welfare last October, combined with provincial funds.
The operation of the Center will be managed by Hongseong Medical Center until December 31, 2025. The organization consists of seven members, including Park Young-jin, head of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Hongseong Medical Center (Center Director).
The province expects the Center to become a key hub that enhances medical accessibility and strengthens health rights for local people with disabilities.
The main functions include maternal health projects for women with disabilities such as pregnancy and childbirth, education for healthcare workers, people with disabilities, and their families, disability-participatory health small groups, health checkups and rehabilitation treatment for people with disabilities, integrated health management services for people with disabilities, and linkage and support for health and welfare projects.
Meanwhile, as of the end of December last year, the number of registered people with disabilities in the Chungnam region was counted at 134,957, accounting for 6.4% of the total local population. This is 1.2 percentage points higher than the national average of 5.2%.
