At 3 PM on the 23rd at City Hall, 'Basic Plan for Urban Industrial Areas'

Comprehensive Management, Activation Directions, and Type-specific Management Measures Presented

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] On the 23rd at 3 PM, Busan City held a "2030 Busan Urban Industrial Area Basic Plan (Draft) Public Hearing" in the large conference room on the first floor of City Hall to gather opinions from experts and citizens on the 2030 Busan Urban Industrial Area Basic Plan (Draft).

According to the "Special Act on the Management and Revitalization of Urban Industrial Areas" enacted in 2021, the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is required to establish the national industrial area basic policy, and mayors and county governors must reflect this policy to establish a basic plan for industrial areas within their jurisdiction, including the direction for maintenance of industrial areas.

Accordingly, the city has established the 2030 Busan Urban Industrial Area Basic Plan (Draft), the first of its kind nationwide.

The target area for establishing the basic plan includes industrial areas in Busan excluding those managed under other laws such as industrial complexes, free economic zones, and port zones, covering an area of 21.85㎢.

The basic plan (draft) contains comprehensive management and revitalization directions for urban industrial areas, including management directions by industrial area type, designation of industrial maintenance zones and industrial innovation zones, and plans for support infrastructure.

Mayor Park Hyung-jun stated, "The urban industrial area basic plan being prepared this time will breathe new life into the aging urban industrial areas and further contribute to Busan’s industrial areas playing a role as regional economic hubs in the future." He added, "As this is the first urban industrial area basic plan being promoted nationwide, I ask for the citizens’ great interest and support so that it can be established with substance."

Last May, the city, in collaboration with LH, designated Samrak Middle School in Sasang-gu and Busan Solbit School as an industrial innovation zone and minimum location regulation zone, respectively, and is promoting the establishment of an elastic material research institute. Going forward, the city plans to attract worker support housing, startup support facilities, and a campus innovation center to develop the area as a regional economic hub.
