[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu continues to hold various cultural and artistic events to restore the commercial district and promote community harmony in the Itaewon and Hannam-dong areas.
As part of the ‘Itaewon Healing, Recovery, and Harmony Project,’ the ‘Itaewon Again, Spring’ event has been prepared. Beyond economic support such as issuing Itaewon Recovery Gift Certificates, the project aims to improve the image of Itaewon as a place people want to visit again through cultural and artistic activities.
The performances will be held every Saturday from late February to April, totaling eight sessions. Locations include Noksapyeong Station Plaza, Quynon-gil, in front of Yongsan Craft Center, and Hannam Tteulak (under Hannam 1 Overpass), covering various spots in Itaewon and Hannam-dong.
During this period, local artists and professional performance teams will present diverse cultural and artistic stages such as busking, classical music, and coloring therapy programs. The first performance will take place on the 25th at 6 p.m. at Noksapyeong Station Plaza.
Kim Seonsu, Acting Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, “To restore the Itaewon commercial district, creating an atmosphere where many people can gather is as important as financial support,” adding, “We will devise various methods, including cultural and artistic events, to encourage people to visit Itaewon again.”
Meanwhile, the district plans to continue economic support for the recovery of the Itaewon commercial district alongside cultural and artistic events.
Since the October 29 tragedy, the district has made multifaceted efforts to support affected small business owners, including issuing Itaewon Commercial District Recovery Gift Certificates worth 10 billion won, providing low-interest (0.8%) loans from the Small and Medium Business Development Fund, issuing certificates for emergency business stabilization funds, and operating the Itaewon On-site One-stop Support Center.
