[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Pyeonghwa] The Korea International Trade Association (KITA) held its '2023 Annual General Meeting' on the 22nd at COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. About 600 representatives from KITA member companies attended the meeting.
At this general meeting, KITA presented this year's business goal as 'Discovering new export engines for the paradigm shift in trade.' It also unveiled five major business strategies and 15 detailed action tasks to overcome export sluggishness.
The five major business strategies proposed by KITA are ▲ Identifying trade field difficulties and providing customized support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and mid-sized companies ▲ Responding to the new trade order and strengthening the global network ▲ Enhancing digital-based services and expanding trade infrastructure ▲ Strengthening export competitiveness in response to changes in the global trade environment ▲ Fostering new growth export industries and increasing the added value of trade.
KITA plans to continuously engage in government recommendation activities to ensure that trade field difficulties are examined and business-friendly systems are established. It will operate digital-based trade consulting and difficulty counseling services to enhance accessibility with member companies. Additionally, by utilizing domestic and international networks, KITA will provide prompt information related to trade issues and focus all efforts on timely responses.
In his opening remarks, KITA Chairman Koo Ja-yeol said, "Exports are declining and trade deficits are worsening due to the slump in semiconductors and exports to China," adding, "To overcome this crisis, we will strengthen KITA's core roles and focus on communication with the field."
