Speaker of Kyrgyzstan Parliament Visits Keimyung University: "Thank You, Surgery"

Free Surgery for 9 Patients, Gratitude Expressed

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Koo Dae-sun] Shakiev Nurlanbek, Speaker of the Kyrgyzstan Parliament, along with 9 members of parliament and the Ambassador of Kyrgyzstan to Korea, totaling 33 people, visited Keimyung University on the 21st to express their gratitude for the free surgeries provided to Kyrgyzstan patients.

Keimyung University (President Shin Il-hee) and Keimyung University Dongsan Medical Center (Director Lee Se-yeop) carried out the ‘2022 KMU DSMC ? HE K. Sadykov Project,’ planned to commemorate the 125th anniversary of its founding in 2022, by inviting 19 Kyrgyzstan patients, their guardians, and doctors in two sessions to perform surgeries and practice sharing through medical volunteer work.

Free surgeries for heart disease, obstetrics and gynecology, and plastic surgery were provided to 9 patients. All related expenses, including surgery and hospitalization fees, round-trip airfare, and accommodation costs, were covered by funds raised through donations from Keimyung University faculty and staff under the ‘Keimyung 1% Love Sharing’ and the ‘Dongsan Medical Mission Welfare Association.’

At that time, there was great interest in Kyrgyzstan, and it became a hot topic in the media. This time, the Speaker of the Kyrgyzstan Parliament and members of parliament visited Keimyung University in person to express their gratitude on behalf of their citizens. The Kyrgyzstan parliamentary delegation held a meeting at Keimyung University and toured the facilities of Keimyung University Dongsan Hospital.

President Shin Il-hee of Keimyung University said, “While heads of state such as the President of Poland have visited Keimyung University, it is an honor to welcome the head of the legislative branch for the first time. Although diplomatic relations between Korea and Kyrgyzstan have been established for 31 years, the two countries have been culturally connected through the Silk Road long before, making Kyrgyzstan a familiar country.”

President Shin added, “Since 2013, Keimyung University has started academic exchanges with Kyrgyzstan National University and has dispatched overseas volunteer teams five times to improve educational facilities and provide educational services. We will strive to ensure that this sharing medical volunteer work is not a one-time event but continues sustainably.”
