Ecological Passage, Ecological Forest, Habitat Creation
[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cha Jong-sun] Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-do (Governor Lee Sang-cheol) announced that the Dongaksan Ecological Corridor (Habitat) Restoration Project is accelerating with the goal of completion in the first half of this year.
The Dongaksan Ecological Corridor (Habitat) Restoration Project is a project to create ecological passages, ecological forests, and habitats where various organisms can communicate and inhabit along Gokseongcheon, which connects Dongaksan Mountain and the Seomjin River.
Since 2020, a total project cost of 8 billion KRW has been secured to carry out detailed design and administrative procedures, and construction began in May 2022.
Gokseongcheon is an ecologically valuable area where endangered species such as otters, leopard cats, flying squirrels, and small dragonflies have been found.
Gokseong-gun plans to conserve the ecosystem of Gokseongcheon through this ecological corridor restoration project, restore damaged natural resources, and install facilities for the conservation and use of the natural environment.
Through this, nearby residents and visitors will be able to more easily experience the beautiful ecological scenery.
In addition, Gokseongcheon is adjacent to tourist attractions such as the Seomjin River floodplain wetland, designated as a national wetland protection area in 2016, Donghwa Garden, and Seomjin River Train Village.
The county plans to link the route from Seomjin River Train Village to Donghwa Garden, the ecological corridor habitat, and the Seomjin River floodplain wetland to provide visitors with abundant sights and activities.
A county official said, “We will restore and improve the base space for the habitat of organisms in Gokseongcheon, expand the green spaces lacking in the city center, proactively respond to environmental issues, and strive to create various added effects where the environment and people coexist.”
