A Man in His 70s Attempted Arson at His Ex-Wife's Place, Committed Suicide on Ganghwa Island

[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] A man in his 70s who attempted arson by visiting his ex-wife with a gas cylinder was found dead on Ganghwa Island.


According to the Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul on the 21st, around 4:30 a.m. that day, Mr. A visited a house near Bukgajwa-dong, Seodaemun-gu, where his ex-wife resides, carrying a gas cylinder and attempted arson but failed and fled. It is reported that the ex-wife, whom Mr. A had visited earlier, did not suffer any significant injuries.

Police, who responded to reports from residents, found Mr. A deceased on Ganghwa Island, Incheon, around 11:30 a.m. that day.


The police are closing the case due to lack of prosecution rights following Mr. A's death, while investigating the motive for the crime and reasons for his extreme choice.


A police official stated, "The investigation of the death will be conducted by the police station with jurisdiction where the body was found," and added, "The motive for the crime is still under investigation."
