"Are you going to do it with ㅇㅇㅇ too?", "XX is ready", "You wouldn't know because you've never been undressed"

Controversy has erupted after conversations revealing that male graduates of Kyung Hee University habitually sexually harassed female alumni and professors in a group KakaoTalk chatroom were made public. It is known that one of the victims is preparing to file a complaint.

According to Kyung Hee University graduates on the 21st, three male students from the Class of 2014 in Department A at Kyung Hee University continuously made sexual remarks targeting seniors, juniors, peers, and professors in the same department in a KakaoTalk chatroom from September 2021 until recently. They did not hesitate to mention specific individuals by name, making statements such as "Are you going to do it with ㅇㅇㅇ too?" and when someone mentioned having a romantic partner, they said, "Who cooks women well?"

Additionally, when a male student said he had met a female alum, they asked, "Did you enjoy it?" or questioned, "Have you tried XX (sexual acts) thinking of the alum?" They also mocked a professor who did not respond to messages by saying, "Aren't they having sex?" One of them said, "If one of the three of us goes into politics, this chatroom will be like Pandora's box."

Their sexual conversations came to light when an acquaintance accidentally discovered the KakaoTalk chatroom, and on the 14th, the conversation content was posted on a private Facebook group page for department alumni, bringing the issue to public attention.

According to one graduate, about 20 female alumni and professors were mentioned in the chatroom. The three admitted their wrongdoing and posted an apology on the 16th, also sending personal apology messages to the victims.

One of the graduates identified as a perpetrator wrote, "I exchanged unpleasant jokes, insulting language, slander, and harassment mentioning fellow students. I believe the sense of betrayal and humiliation felt by those harmed is immeasurable. I sincerely want to apologize." Both the expos? and apology posts have since been deleted.

However, some victims feel the apology lacks sincerity and are preparing to file complaints. One victim plans to submit a complaint for defamation and insult charges to the Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul on the morning of the 23rd.

Meanwhile, sexual harassment in group KakaoTalk chats conducted without the presence of the involved parties does not constitute a sexual crime but can be punished under defamation or insult laws. Defamation carries a penalty of up to two years imprisonment or a fine of up to 5 million KRW, while insult carries up to one year imprisonment or a fine of up to 2 million KRW.
