Ministry of Environment to Deploy 200 Hydrogen Buses in Incheon Within This Year... 700 Buses by 2024

[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] The Ministry of Environment will support the supply of 200 hydrogen buses in Incheon this year and 700 buses by 2024.

On the 21st, the Ministry of Environment announced that five organizations, including Incheon City, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Hyundai Motor Company, and SK E&S, will sign the "Incheon Hydrogen Bus Leading City Establishment Implementation Agreement" on the 22nd at Songdo Convensia in Yeonsu-gu, Incheon.

Incheon City has decided to convert more than 200 city buses to hydrogen buses this year. The budget for converting 119 buses has already been reflected in this year's budget, and additional funds will be secured through supplementary budgets and others.

By 2024, a total of 700 buses will be converted to hydrogen buses. In March last year, Incheon City signed an agreement with the Ministry of Environment to convert 2,000 city buses to hydrogen buses by 2030.

Since last month, hydrogen metropolitan buses (low-floor buses) have been operating nationwide for the first time in Incheon.

Additionally, seven hydrogen charging stations are currently operating, including five that can charge commercial vehicles such as buses, and seven more are being constructed. Among the charging stations under construction, four can charge commercial vehicles, and notably, three are liquefied hydrogen charging stations with high efficiency and stability.

In Incheon, SK E&S is building a plant capable of supplying 30,000 tons of liquefied hydrogen annually, the largest in the world.

On this day, the Seoul Metropolitan Government deployed one eco-friendly hydrogen bus on route 370 operated by Daewon Passenger Transport, and will add three more on the 22nd. When driving, the hydrogen bus takes in oxygen containing fine dust from the air, which combines with hydrogen inside the bus to emit only clean water with 99.9% of pollutants removed. In contrast, it does not emit pollutants such as nitrogen oxides or greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, earning it the reputation as the most perfect eco-friendly transportation method.
