On the afternoon of the 21st, Oh Su-jeong, a product planner (MD) of the processed food team at BGF Retail, met at the BGF Retail headquarters in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and said, "Looking at the daily sales trends, there were days when Baek Jong-won's Meat Jjamppong sold more than Yukgaejang. From a long-term perspective, I think overtaking it is not impossible."
Baek Jong-won's Meat Jjamppong surpassed 1 million cumulative sales within a month of its launch. MD Oh emphasized, "We were able to create a high-quality product by combining a strong partnership and know-how with Baek Jong-won, the cooking researcher and CEO of The Born Korea. The taste and quality that meet the heightened expectations of consumers are the biggest factors in its popularity."
Since it is a product bearing Baek CEO's name, development took a full year. MD Oh explained, "CU and The Born Korea's development team collaborated closely, narrowing down opinions on taste and direction. Baek CEO was directly involved from the initial sample taste tests to the product completion. Since ramen requires detailed adjustments of noodles, flakes, and sauce, the development time tends to be long."
The purchase ratio of Baek Jong-won's Meat Jjamppong by age and gender is fairly balanced. MD Oh said, "Meat Jjamppong is a dish enjoyed by people of all ages and genders, so it seems to be popular among a wide range of customers. Recording higher sales than steady sellers with solid fan bases is very unusual in the conservative ramen market," she expressed.
New ramen product ideas are sourced from social networking services (SNS) and hip places. MD Oh stated, "Ramen trends and popular restaurants can be easily found through internet and Instagram searches, and we often visit famous eateries. We are interested in various noodle types such as ramen, noodles, and stir-fried dishes, and also observe snacks and desserts comprehensively for unique collaborations."
This year's goal is for Baek Jong-won's Meat Jjamppong to reach first place. MD Oh said, "I hope Baek Jong-won's Meat Jjamppong becomes a game changer in the ramen world, surpassing the conventional products. I wish it to be a product loved not just for a short time but one that can be sustained for 5 or 10 years."
