[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, highly praised the extension of Subway Line 3 and the signing of the Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railroad agreement on the 21st as "co-governance transcending political parties and regions."
On the same day, Governor Kim mentioned through his social network service (SNS), "Transportation issues directly affect the lives of residents," adding, "Large-scale residential districts are being established in Seongnam, Yongin, Suwon, Hwaseong, etc., causing severe congestion during commuting hours."
He continued, "Co-governance that transcends political parties and regions is urgently needed to give residents an extra hour during their commute, and Gyeonggi Province must change," introducing, "Today, Gyeonggi Province, Suwon City, Yongin City, Seongnam City, and Hwaseong City joined hands for the successful promotion of the extension of Subway Line 3 and the Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railroad."
In particular, he said, "I hope this agreement will bring the commuting routes of 4 million residents a little closer," and promised, "I deeply appreciate the cooperation of the four cities that prioritized the residents first, and Gyeonggi Province will make every effort to give residents an extra hour during their commute."
Earlier, Gyeonggi Province and these four cities signed a "Win-win Cooperation Agreement for the Joint Project Promotion of Seoul Subway Line 3 Extension and Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railroad" in the situation room on the 5th floor of the new Gyeonggi Provincial Government building.
According to the agreement, Gyeonggi Province and the four cities will prepare the optimal route plan to proactively respond to transportation condition improvements and large-scale development projects for the successful extension of Seoul Subway Line 3, and jointly respond to reflect this in higher-level plans such as the 5th National Railroad Network Construction Plan.
