Kim Tae-woo, Seoul Gangseo District Mayor, Listens to Residents’ Voices Ahead of Hwagog 2-dong Urban Complex Project
Mayor Kim: “I will work swiftly to revitalize the old downtown by actively engaging on the ground like a field officer”
On the afternoon of the 21st, Kim Tae-woo, Mayor of Gangseo District, Seoul, held a meeting with local residents in his office to expedite the ‘Hwagog 2-dong Urban Public Housing Complex Project’.
This meeting was directly arranged by Mayor Kim to help residents fully understand the project and to hear various opinions from the field, as the project’s progress is difficult without residents’ consent.
The meeting was held in a free atmosphere without a formal structure, attended by about ten local residents. When residents asked questions about the urban complex project, Mayor Kim responded on the spot.
One resident said, “Although we are meeting and persuading residents directly, some oppose the project due to misinformation, so a residents’ briefing session hosted by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) is necessary.”
In response, Mayor Kim Tae-woo said, “To accelerate the development of the old downtown, I am also actively working on the ground like a field officer,” and added, “I will do my best to ensure that the residents’ briefing session for the Hwagog 2-dong Urban Complex Project near the Hwagog 2-dong Community Center is held as soon as possible.”
He also said, “Not only the urban complex project but also the relaxation of airport height restrictions must be resolved together to achieve synergy effects, so I will continue to meet and negotiate with officials from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and related agencies.”
The candidate site near Hwagog 2-dong Community Center was selected last December as the largest candidate site ever. This site has a high level of residents’ enthusiasm for development, securing a resident consent rate of up to 72% for the urban complex project implementation.
