[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk is putting all its efforts into discovering citizen-participatory policies that citizens can directly engage in and empathize with.
The city announced on the 21st that from the 22nd of this month to the 23rd of next month, for 30 days, it will hold a contest for fresh and creative citizen participation policy proposals aimed at improving citizen welfare and administrative services.
This is to practice the city administration goal of ‘Open City Administration with Citizen Participation,’ reflecting citizens' opinions in city operations, and to discover various policies such as improving residents' daily life convenience, resident-centered policies, and youth and population inflow policies.
Any Jeongeup citizen can participate in the policy proposal contest, and selected proposals will be reflected in city policies after procedures such as planning and budgeting.
The contest themes are divided into special themes and general themes.
The special themes include proposals for hometown love fund projects that can give donors a sense of fulfillment, proposals for local extinction response fund projects to address population decline, and policy proposals for making Jeongeup a city where youth want to stay.
The general themes are policies around us that citizens can feel need improvement or implementation.
To apply, download the application form from the Jeongeup City website, fill it out, and submit it by mail, fax, or email.
The city will select one grand prize winner and one excellence award winner in the special theme category, one grand prize winner and one excellence award winner in the general theme category, and three encouragement award winners through evaluation, awarding certificates and a total prize money of 8.2 million KRW (4.1 million KRW for citizens, 4.1 million KRW for public officials) in Jeongeup Love gift certificates.
The evaluation will comprehensively assess creativity, feasibility, and effectiveness, and the results will be announced on the Jeongeup City website in May.
Mayor Lee Hak-su said, “Please propose various ideas with the mindset that citizens themselves are creating the city’s policies,” and added, “We will continue to strive to discover diverse and innovative policies through citizen participation to provide administrative services that citizens can feel.”
