In his first year as manager of the Haitai Tigers, Kim Eung-yong defied all expectations and clinched the first Korean Series championship. Following this miraculous victory, the Haitai Tigers achieved four consecutive Korean Series championships from 1986 to 1989.
During his 14 seasons as a player with Haitai, Manager Kim Seong-han reached the pinnacle of the Korean Series seven times. Additionally, he is the only player in the KBO League to have recorded double-digit wins and home runs in a single season.
Manager Seon Dong-yeol is widely recognized as Korea’s greatest baseball player, known as a national treasure pitcher, the Mudeungsan Bomber, and the Sun of Nagoya. He remains beloved by baseball fans, having ranked first in the fan vote for the ‘Legend 40’ of 40 years of professional baseball from 1982 to 2022, announced last year.
The three legends will visit the 51st Gangjin Celadon Festival site around 5 p.m. on the 23rd to cheer for the successful event and enjoy various activities such as tasting Hamel coffee and touring the light sculptures.
Gangjin County Governor Kang Jin-won said, “During my tenure as Gangjin County Governor from 2014 to 2017, I had the honor of throwing the first pitch on a selected day during the Kia Tigers’ home games in Gwangju, and the home team won four years in a row. It is an honor to gather the legends of Korean professional baseball in one place, and I hope everyone enjoys the festival comfortably and to the fullest.”
Meanwhile, the 51st Gangjin Celadon Festival will be held for seven days from the 23rd to March 1 at the Goryeo Celadon Museum area in Daegu-myeon, Gangjin-gun. Visitors can enjoy a variety of winter-themed content centered on light and fire, and especially the colorful light sculptures are expected to become a popular ‘Instagram-worthy’ spot for the MZ generation.
