Mexican Residents Demand Severe Punishment for Perpetrators
1,605 Minors Murdered Last Year
A tragic incident occurred in Mexico where young siblings who made a living by selling fried food after school were murdered.
According to the Mexican daily El Universal on the 20th (local time), a funeral was held on the 19th afternoon in the village of El Espinal, Huitit?n, Oaxaca, for siblings Perla Daniel (9) and Wilber Daniel (6).
The siblings were found dead around 7:05 PM on the 18th along a national highway in the Huitit?n area. It is reported that their bodies showed signs of having been attacked by someone.
The news of the siblings' deaths plunged the local community into sorrow. It was reported that the siblings lived with their father and supported their livelihood by selling fried food late into the evening after school, adding to the tragedy. Many villagers, school teachers, and friends attended the funeral.
Residents urged the investigative authorities to severely punish the perpetrators. Some residents pointed out that the siblings' grandmother and father did not report their disappearance to the authorities and testified that the siblings had been exploited by them during their lifetime.
Local investigative authorities stated that one person has been arrested and is under investigation in connection with this case. However, specific charges or identities have not been disclosed. The authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation into the siblings' surrounding environment.
Salomon Jara Cruz, Governor of Oaxaca, condemned the murder of minors through his Twitter account. He emphasized, "We will do our utmost to clarify the facts and ensure that those responsible are punished to the fullest extent permitted by law."
Meanwhile, according to data from the Mexican Child Rights Network, a total of 1,605 minors under the age of 17 were murdered in Mexico last year.
