The lifestyle-friendly forest (indoor garden) creation project has been promoted by the city since 2020 as a national forest service subsidy project to improve residents' living environment and reduce indoor fine dust.

This forest refers to a vertical indoor garden created on the walls of public facilities frequently used by many people, utilizing plants proven to have air purification effects, contributing to reducing the concentration of indoor fine dust and volatile organic compounds that increase in enclosed spaces.

This year, the city will create lifestyle-friendly forests at two representative public facilities: Gimhae International Airport in Gangseo-gu and Busan Central Bus Terminal in Geumjeong-gu. The city will invest 1 billion KRW to establish these lifestyle-friendly forests at the facilities, which will be responsible for their operation and maintenance.

Lee Geun-hee, Director of the Environmental Policy Office of the city, said, “Lifestyle-friendly forests (indoor gardens) can expand green living spaces without occupying additional space, providing green resting areas for citizens, as well as improving the living environment and indoor air quality of public facilities and promoting health. Our city will continue to create and expand lifestyle-friendly forests in multi-use facilities to leap forward as a leading city for 2050 carbon neutrality in response to the climate crisis.”
